There's an interesting debate going on out there regarding the fate of postmodernism. Chuck Colson, with a little help, penned an article in Christianity Today regarding its demise. In return, Brian McLaren responded with an eight page "open letter" to Chuck, explaining to him, albeit as kindly as he could word it, why Chuck didn't have a clue about postmodernism and ought to mind his own counsel until he does. If time allows, I'll try to come back to this later because I think there's a third way besides this either-or approach. In the meantime, look these two links over and leave me your thoughts.
Posted by Mike at December 15, 2003 05:46 PM | TrackBackThanks for posting this, Mike. I have read snippets of McLaren's response elsewhere, but I appreciated being able to read the entire letter. I am struggling to understand postmodernism, even though I regularly read several blogs written by people who would probably call themselves postmoderns. McLaren's explanation helped to make things more clear for me.
It also helped me to understand why I have failed so miserably in my attempts to share the gospel with people who have this philosophy (am I using the right word here?). They seem to take any attempt on my part to show them how Christian answers "the big questions" as trying to be arrogant, oppressive and dominant. And I end up feeling terrible.
