I, too, see ebbs and flows in my consistency, and I, too, sometimes can't tell the difference one way or the other. But let me suggest an analogy here. I can also see similar ebbs and flows in my marriage and in being a father. There are times when I really stink as a husband and as a father. There are times when I do well at both. I wish the latter outweighed the former. It's not just the journey, and it's not just the endpoint. It's both mattering equally at the same time.
